internettedly wasting time

I like that I can see where people are viewing this blog from. There are views from all over the world. I think that's freaking awesome. I can waste the time of people anywhere in the world from this little keyboard of mine (assuming that I can trick them into reading this blog.)

So, Hello US people as well as anyone that's popped in from Thailand, Canada, Australia, Ukraine, Colombia, Germany, Russia, France (désolé pour mon français...), and the UK. I love the internet.

Where else can you find so many naked people?? Also, resources to endlessly learn things.

There. Those are the things I care about. Naked people and learning things.

Bises !

Language nerdery and my beautiful kid

That sounds complicated for me."

I want learning things to be fun for her. And I love to encourage her interest in other languages. She's starting to actually grasp that we speak one language and other people speak other languages. At her age, it's a difficult concept to wrap her mind around... that the words we use to transmit meaning aren't the same words everyone uses. But she's getting there. She knows that Spanish exists. And French, obviously. And Japanese.

We were watching a cartoon that had been translated into English. I mentioned in passing that it had originally been in Japanese. "Daddy. I'm going to learn Japanese. I'm serious." I laughed, rather delighted, and told her I'll join her in that quest after my French is (much) better.

One mountain to climb is enough for now.

In any case, Norwegian is slated to be next. Don't know why. But I like it.

So, between the time she spends with her mom, getting grounded in music, and the time she spends here with me, et les langues...

Suffice it to say, we're totally raising a polyglot musician. =D

I leave you with the sure knowledge that she's better than the rest of us.

Luuuurve,
Mark

PS... Nothing, though, beats the time she ran up to me and snarled "Je t'aime Daddy ! Merci !" She kills me.

il fait chaud aujourd'hui

...mais je suis dehors au soleil. Parce que je fume. Il me détend....

Mark

(Pardonnez (et corrigez, svp) mes erreurs...)

Best. Idea. Ever.

Or at least, today's best idea.

The other day I was having a conversation about how someone needs to write a bunch of sensitive acoustic folk singer-songwriter type music with the lyrics in Klingon. During said conversation, I said that I would totally do it myself, if I were able to sing and play, or sing, or write.

And then, just out of curiosity, I looked up the Klingon dictionary on Amazon. And it was less than a dollar.

So... I got an email today saying it had been shipped.

Now, I'm half committed to writing a Klingon song about some shit. But I want to clarify that I'm NOT learning Klingon. Because I like not having to sleep alone every night. I don't like to buy in to stereotypes, but let's be honest.

As far as this post's title... let me elaborate. After I receive said Klingon dictionary, and dabble a bit with it:

I need to buy a banjo.

There. That's the idea. Friggin Klingon banjo music! Right??

Be gentle

This is the first bit of blogging I've done since Myspace was relevant... So be gentle.
Gentle but generous with your page views.

I'm really only doing this to spare all my fb buddies constant nonsensical updates in french. You see, I'm studying French. Therefore, I would like to get to where I can shatter the internet's collective mind in two languages!! INORITE???!!!?!

WHAT AN AWESOME F-WORD'ING IDEA?!!!!!!!! HOLY F-WORD!!! (holy crap. two f-words in one line. edit: three.)

I'm a big fan of stream of consciousness writing. From me, anyways. And that's all I really care about. Because I'm selfish. And Awesome.

Since my goal is, in fact, French.. I will try and force myself out of my comfort zone and actually *gasp* post in French. If you, the mythical reader I've heard so much about but rarely experienced, happen to respond in French, it's very welcome. Just know that I might very well respond in complete non sequitors. Because, as they say, Je parle le français comme une vache espagnole.

So if you say something like

I might end up responding with something like
Oui ! La licorne est blanche et três belle !!!

Because I'm also stupid.

Fair warning, y'all.
